Monday, Monday
Monday, Monday
One early Monday morning, I proclaimed to my husband, “Today will be a great day.” He asked, “Why?” and I told him I decided it would be.
Later when I arrived home at the end of the day, I asked my husband,” Was today a good day?” He paused like he was thinking and said, “You know what? Yes, it was.” Then we talked about our activity and events of that day.
Often Mondays get a bad reputation. I don’t know the reason. I think I started hating Mondays because it was ingrained in me from our culture that Mondays are bad. We hear statements like, “Monday Morning blues,” all the time.
I get it. If you work a traditional Monday through Friday Job, returning to work after 48 hours of chilling can be a challenge. But why? Do we not like what we do for a living? Did we not get enough rest? Is there a bill due on Mondays? Is there a meeting each Monday that is dreaded? What is it about Mondays that is so bad? The Monday I spoke of in the beginning of this blog, I decided to reframe my thinking around what Mondays mean while I was drinking my morning coffee.
Here are some ways I decided I can view Mondays.
- An opportunity to see my co-workers who I may not see often, given our current hybrid schedule.
- One more chance to thank God for living.
- A time to release a new blog post and discuss comments with my readers.
- A chance to begin again with a fresh perspective on a project I couldn’t get completed.
- A chance to begin a new habit to be more productive and successful in accomplishing goals.
- A chance to hear a new podcast episode from a show I follow.
Whatever it is, perspective is important. I try to remember to pay attention to my thinking, emotions, and language on Sunday evening as I prepare for Monday and the start of a new work week.
If you find Mondays to be a challenge, try reframing your thoughts around the day. If you sense negative vibes, shift to positive language. I suggest starting by giving thanks for a new opportunity to get some things right. Try that and see how your Monday will be blessed.
